MYANMAR’S first wrestling event, similar to the famous World Wrestling Entertainment brand, took place at Theinbyu stadium, Yangon Region yesterday, attracting male and female wrestlers from Japan, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Britain and the United States.
The event was held to raise a flood relief fund, the organisers said, adding that all the profits would be allocated to the flood-hit areas. Yangon Press, the first Japanese Media in Myanmar, donated Ks10 million to the flood relief fund.
Last July and August, 12 of 14 regions and states across the country encountered unprecedented floods which left hundreds of thousands homeless and destroyed farmlands.
