Myanmar Anti-Corruption Commission and UNODC hold Asset Recovery Workshop

Under the UNODC’s Aid Programme, the Asset Recovery Workshop was held with the intention of upgrading capacities of Myanmar Anti-Corruption Commission and other related organizations, especially for the tasks of eradication of corruption in Myanmar, at the Royal ACE Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Present at the workshop were commission members of Myanmar anti-corruption commission, Mr Shervin Majlessi, the Senior Legal Advisor to the World Bank/ United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative (StAR) and representatives, representatives from ministries and respective organizations, officials and staff from the commission office and invited guests.
Mr Shervin Majlessi gave introductory words at the workshop.
Mr Shervin Majlessi and those present at the meeting discussed at length topics regarding recovery in order to implement the recovery of assets included in chapter 5 of UNCAC Prescription among other topics.
At the workshop, members and staff of Myanmar Anti-Corruption Commission, representatives from the Union Supreme Court, Myanmar Police Force of Prevention and Suppression of Financial Crimes, Department of Special Investigation and Office of Union Attorney General, regarding the recovery of assets.
UNODC established (StAR) Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative in cooperation with the World Bank. With regards to assets acquired from corruption, it has been learnt that a special international website on the acquisition of assets in countries suffering from loss and those receiving assets had been formed. In addition, UNODC will conduct trainings on upgrading capacities of justice institutions, investigation officers and filing officers.
The workshop will be held till 12 July.
