Myanmar and Japan have tied for the top slot with the highest accumulative rate of European travellers, according to PR Newswire.
The online travel agency agoda.com found that Myanmar and Japan were the most popular destinations when they studied the booking patterns of European travellers. Mawlamyine, home to the world’s largest reclining Buddha, was the most favorite destination of the European visitors. The visitation rate to Myanmar doubled in late 2014 as compared to the previous year, it is learnt.
Mawlamyine attracts the visitors with its old buildings dating back to the colonial time. Additionally, Hpa-an is famous for its natural scenic beauty. The number of visitors to Hpa-An increased into two-fold last year.
Hsipaw town is also one of the destinations to which the European travelers flock, known for its historic sites.
Tourists are flocking to Myanmar in rough correlation to the improvement of the country’s infrastructures. The most famous destinations, Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan, continue to attract many visitors. As transportation, communications and accommodations improve, other sites such as the beaches in Ngwe Saung and Ngapali are also becoming popular.
