A WILDFIRE on Mt.Popa engulfed a relay station belonging to Myanmar Radio and Television and causing K4 million in damages, according to a local fire station.
Local sources said that firefighters, Tatmadawmen, police officers, departmental personnel and local people fought the wildfire for several hours, creating a fire line which was 15-foot wide to halt the advance of the blaze.
The wildfire broke out at the top of the mountain at an altitude of 4,981 feet above sea level about 4.30 pm on Wednesday and it was put out at around 10 am the following day after sweeping over the mountain.
The local fire station said that the fire destroyed a building, solar panels, batteries, power generator and two sets of air-conditioners, causing a loss of around K4 million.
