Monsoon tree planting event 2017 in Hlawga Lake area

The 5th monsoon tree planting event 2017 at Hlawga Lake area jointly organized by the Yangon City Development Committee and the AEON Environmental Foundation was held yesterday in Hlawga Lake, Mingaladon Township, Yangon region, yesterday and Vice President U Myint Swe participated in it.
The event was attended by Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Tin Maung Tun, Yangon region government Ministers Col. Aung Soe Moe and U Han Tun, Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe, departmental officials, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar Mr. Ichiro Maruyama, officials from the AEON Environmental Foundation and invited guests.
At the event AEON Co., Ltd President Mr. Motoya Okada first gave a short welcome speech and Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Tin Maung Tun explained about the aim of the monsoon tree planting after which Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar Mr. Ichiro Maruyama said words of thanks.
Next, the Vice President and officials planted teak saplings in designated places and viewed the planting of 1,200 plants; 550 plants from Japan side and 650 plants from Myanmar side.
In the day’s tree planting event more than 13,000 saplings consisting of Teak (Tectona grandis), Tamarind (Tamarindus indica), Pyinkadoe (Xylia xylocarpa) and Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) were planted in the 20 acres of the Hlawga Lake area.
The AEON Co., Ltd. of Japan has been annually planting trees in Myanmar since 2013 and a total of 47,000 trees had been planted while this is the fifth time the event was held.
