MOFA and CCPR jointly organize a workshop on International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights

The second workshop on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Centre for Civil and Political Rights based in Geneva, is being held in Nay Pyi Taw from 14 to 15 December 2017. Director-General U Kyaw Moe Tun, International Organizations and Economic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered opening remarks at the workshop.
A total of fifty participants including the members of Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Office of the State Counsellor, the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Sports, the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs, Union Supreme Court, Union Attorney General’s Office and Myanmar National Human Rights Commission as well as invited scholars attended the workshop. The first workshop was also held in Nay Pyi Taw in early this year.
Myanmar is promoting and protecting human rights of its people by observing and ratifying International Human Rights Conventions. The workshop was held with an aim to signing of the ICCPR and to understand more on the ICCPR. The current workshop will help participating institutions for better understanding on the ICCPR in Myanmar’s desire to sign the Covenant.
