MNMC to protect influence and dignity of journalism

“Newsmen or artiste literary workers love freedom, hence need to be given freedom of expression and simultaneously privileges for their own security.” said Dr Pe Myint, Union Minister for Information, meeting with Myanmar News Media Councilors in Yangon yesterday.
He added that journalists had the right to express freely, but they were required to protect against harm and humiliation, taking responsibility and accountability for their deeds.
He went on to say that News Media Council is needed to control media men to enjoy the freedom conscientiously.
He disclosed that he believed in the existence of the media council since before entering office, so as to maintain the prestige and influence of journalism.
At the meeting, U Khin Maung Lay (Pho Thauk Kyar-Khit Moe), Chairman of the Myanmar News Media Council, gave a welcoming address while Daw Thin Thin Thar (Associate Secretary-1) discussed results of the Editorial Forum at the meeting between mediamen and MNMC, U Kyaw Swa Min, Associate Secretary-2, results from Access to Information Workshop at the meeting between broadcasting and print media men from inter-states and regions and MNMC, U Han Nyunt, member of the MNMC, meeting results between MNMC and high-ranking officials of Health Ministry held in Nay Pyi Taw.
Responsible personnel from the Ministry of Information and MNMC also presented arrangements to hold a workshop at Nay Pyi Taw and U Soe Myint, CEO of the Mizzima Media Group, discussed media development policy.
the Union Minister answered questions at a press conference which was held to link media directly with the ministries and he said that spokespersons for ministries should be informed of policies and he wholly accepted media development policy.
The meeting ended with the closing remarks of the MNMC Chairman.
