THE Nagayon Maha Bawdi Pagoda Board of Trustees are organising the 45th Mathoe Thingan (robe weaving) contest and rice offering ceremony, which will be held at the pagoda’s prayer hall in Nandawgon Ward, Meiktila, Mandalay Region, on 25 and 26 November.
The event coincides with the full moon day of Tazaungmone and will include female weaving teams taking part in a contest using five looms on the evening of 25 November.
The contest itself is the production of Mathoe Thingan (robes). Once completed, officials and well-wishers will offer the robes to four Buddha images at the pagoda.
Members of the Sangha will consecrate the Buddha images in the morning of 26 November.
On the Full Moon Day of Tazaungmone, locals will offer rice to more than 1,000 Buddhist monks from 30 monasteries.
Weaving contest of Mathoe Thingan (robes) is one of Myanmar’s traditional festivals as well as religious occasions dedicated to the Lord Buddha.
