Mandalay to host Mandalar Open Basketball Championship

Mandalay Region Basketball Sub-committee announced yesterday that the Mandalar Open Basketball Championship and the Men’s U-20 Basketball Championship will be held for the first time at Bahtoo Stadium in Mandalay from April 25 to 30.
The sporting event, jointly organized by Mandalay Region basketball sub-committee and Kaung Su Aung Co., Ltd., will be of an international standard and so will be the first of its kind in Myanmar.
“The tournament aims to support young people who are interested in basketball and turn out a new generation of players,” said U Wai Yan Aung of Kaung Su Aung Co., Ltd who is also a member of the organizing committee.
According to the organizing committee, accommodation is available for teams from rural areas and admission is free for the tournament.
Teams which are interested in participating in the tournament at Bahtoo Stadium must submit application forms by April 23, added U Wai Yan Aung.
Winners of the open championship will receive K2 million for first prize, K1.5 million for second prize and K1 million for third prize.
Likewise, teams which come first, second and third in the men’s U-20 championship will win prizes worth K 1 million, K700,000 and K 500,000 respectively.
The first basketball championship in Mandalay is open to teams from all regions and states, amateur basketball teams and teams representing universities and colleges across the country.
