RENTAL housing is being prepared for migrant workers living in unlicensed huts along the Ayeyawady River in Mandalay Region, according to the local development committee.
U Thet Naing Tun, the joint secretary of the Mandalay City Development Committee, said housing projects are under construction along the river in Aungmyaythasan Township.
“The project will help lower crime, landscape the area and attract more tourists,” he said, adding that rental fees will initially be set at K30,000 (US$23) per month.
The project will include 1,584 units, each measuring 10 feet by 20 feet. The joint secretary quoted the surveys as saying that over 2,600 households in need of homes have been identified.
More projects will come as the demand exceeds the supply, he said.
