MAGWE, which was the worst hit area by floods last year, was provided with a disaster preparedness and response fund by a philanthropic organisation yesterday.
KBZ’s Brighter Future Myanmar foundation (BFM) donated K100 million to the Magwe Region Government yesterday to establish a fund for preparedness and for response to disasters.
The move comes after the foundation’s establishment of such a fund in Rakhine and Chin states recently.
“BFM and other philanthropic groups carried out evacuation and relief in areas which were badly hit by floods and landslides last year, but we faced delays in sending relief aid to some areas due to poor infrastructure. Learning from these situations, the foundation decided to establish this fund,” said Daw Yu Par Win of BFC speaking at the ceremony to hand over the cash to the government through Chief Minister Dr Aung Moe Nyo.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to brace for La Niña in the country, the BFM has arranged to provide 120,000 sets of warm clothing to people including internally
displaced persons who are expected to experience serious cold weather this coming winter.
