Authorities detained eight people accused of illegal logging in a jungle near Lonphaw Village, Khamouttaw, Kawthaung District on Friday.
Acting on a tip, a combined team comprising police and staff from the district department of forestry raided the temporary tents of the accused and seized about 40 tonnes of timber and machinery used in logging.
Police detained U Hlaing Win, accused of being the owner of the illegal logging business, five workers and two dependents of the workers.
