Legislation and law drafting coordination meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw

A WORK coordination meeting on legislation and law drafting was held at a meeting hall of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Joint Bill Committee in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Win Myint said that it is required to amend, revise and abolish old laws and enact new laws suitable for the present situation.
The Speaker stressed the need of ensuring that the laws offer protection to the people and encourage them to respect and follow the law, calling for participation of all in efforts to make appropriate laws conform with the country’s economic and social policies.
In his address, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than emphasised the need to ensure laws are suitable for the modern era and highlighted the importance of the rule of law in the country’s multi-party democracy system and market economic system.
Next, Thura U Shwe Mann, chairman of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Legal Affairs and Special Cases Assessment Commission, called for revision and removal of outdated laws and promulgation of new laws to strengthen democracy, stating that it is all impossible without change to the laws.
Then, members of the commission reported on matters related to legislation and law drafting and those present held discussions on the matters.
Also present at the meeting were Chief Justice of the Union U Tun Tun Oo, Chairman of Constitutional Tribunal U Myo Nyunt, Chairman of Union Election Commission U Hla Thein, Deputy Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat, Deputy Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker U Aye Tha Aung, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye, Deputy Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor U Khin Maung Tint, Deputy Attorney-General U Win Myint, chairpersons and secretaries of Hluttaw committees and officials.—Myanmar News Agency
