Lawyer working on farmers’ rights released

U ZAW Win, a lawyer who was representing farmers involved in land-grab disputes, walked out of Obo prison in Mandalay yesterday.
The lawyer and Supreme Court advocate was arrested in 2014 and charged with six counts of cases including Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code (making statements conducing to public mischief) and Section 18 of the peaceful protest law.  The lawyer gave free legal advice to farmers in PyinOoLwin, Madaya, Patheingyi and Singaing Townships in Mandalay Region who were charged for engaging in protests over land disputes.—Khine Hset Wai
