Under the Maternal and Child Cash Transfer (MCCT) programme to help expecting mothers and children under 2 years of age, over Ks78 million was given to qualified people between 5 and 9 February in Maungtaw, Rakhine State, it is learnt.
The provision of cash assistance was jointly conducted by the Maungtaw Township Health Department and the General Administration Department, with a total of 2,180 expecting mothers from 67 wards and village tracts each provided with Ks45,000, for a total cash outlay of more than Ks78 million, according to Maungtaw Township Social Affairs Department township case manager U Kyaw Aung Sein.
“The MCCT program was implemented with an aim to increase the nutrition and health of expecting mothers and children under two years of age. In doing this, it was provided to all in the township who were entitled, regardless of their social status, race or religion” said U Kyaw Aung Sein.
This is the first time the MCCT programme has been implemented in a ward or village in Maungtaw Township, and there are plans for another disbursement of cash at the end February, it is learnt.
