Korea-Myanmar Inland Aquaculture Development Forum held in Mandalay

Korea-Myanmar Inland Aquaculture Development Forum was held at Sedona Hotel in Mandalay on October 27.
The forum was attended by U Khin Maung Aye, Deputy Minister for Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development, Mr Nam Kwon Hyoung, chief resident representative of Korean International Cooperation Agency and experts from National Fisheries Research and Development Institute from Korea.
The purpose of the forum is to propose the draft master plan for the development of inland aquaculture industry and to draw action plans for the promotion of inland aquaculture industry in Myanmar.
Mr Nam Kwon Hyoung, chief resident representative said the fisheries sector in Myanmar is vital for national food security, income generation and export promotions.
Mr Nam said, “That is why we have to achieve high productivity and quality by aquaculture development not only for the domestic consumption, but also for foreign markets.”
In this connection, KOICA is supporting the “Project for Development of Inland Fish Farming Technology” in partnership with
Department of Fishery.”
In the forum, the presentations such as the proposal of the draft master plan for inland aquaculture development in Myanmar, the establishment of an inland aquaculture research and extension center in Myanmar, leading causes of mass mortality of fishes occurring in natural water body, Myanmar inland aquaculture policy and development plans, challenges in Myanmar inland aquaculture farms are.—KOICA Myanmar
