SCHOOLS in the townships of Moehnyin are reorganising classroom plans and arranging for new teaching and learning aids in preparation for the 2016-2017 curriculum. The curriculum will reintroduce kindergarden classes.
“Rooms with timber flooring are more suitable for KG than concrete flooring. So, we’re now using wood for those dedicated rooms,” said Dr Wathan Myat Thin, head mistress of Moehnyin Basic Education High School No.1.
All schools have sent two teachers each to attend a refresher course for the new KG curriculum. According to the rules of the Education department, there shall be at least two teachers per KG class. However, there are more than 100 KG students in some schools. As many schools are understaffed, they have not been able to send KG teachers to the refresher courses, it has been learned.
“We are planning to construct separate buildings for KG classes and there will be separate rooms for KG classes at all schools by the 2020 academic year,” said an assistant township education officer.
