JMC-U discusses procedures, budget

The Union Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (JMC-U) discussed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Terms of Reference and budget at its ninth meeting at the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre in Yangon yesterday.
The meeting also discussed administrative matters related to state-level Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (JMC-S) offices and the budget for JMC-U.
On the last day of the three-day meeting, the members of the JMC-U will discuss security matters for the members of the monitoring groups, according to JMC-U’s Secretary-1 Dr Shwe Khar.
On the first day of the meeting on Monday, Chairman of JMC-U Lt-Gen Yar Pyai has called for preventing clashes between troops as the leaders are planning to hold the Union Peace Conference-21st Century Panglong for building a federal democratic nation.
He also stressed the need for the JMC-U to follow the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement as part of its efforts for assisting in peace building in the country.
Saw Isaac Po, Vice-Chairman-1 of JMC-U, urged troops from both sides to avoid actions which could collapse the trust between them, stressing the need to seek ways for building trust between the troops at the negotiation table.
During the three-day meeting, the members of the JMC-U will also discuss matters on arrangements for a visit to the Philippines, conducting mine clearance trainings and demarcation for  the troops.—Ye Khaung Nyunt
