JCMC to form sub-committees

Union level Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (JCMC) members spoke of forming regionstate-level committees in Kayin and Mon States. Saw Isaac Po, JMC-U vice chairman 1, said that works to form JMC-S in Kayin and Mon States are expected to begin on 29-30 June.
“Apart from the talks of state-level committees, funding and matters related to JCMC offices were also discussed at the meeting,” said Saw Isaac Po, also saying that funding is not available yet. According to sources, civil participation in the JCMC will be discussed today.
The two-day meeting is set to discuss formation of JCMCs in Kayin and Mon States and Bago Region, works to be done on JCMC-Technical Secretariat Center (TSC), a budget for the implementation of the JCMC process for three years and the formation of working committees to develop work programs and a JCMC database, public participation in the monitoring process and demining.
U Ko Ko Gyi, JCMCs vice chairman 2, said that he would make a presentation of civil participation in the ceasefire monitoring process on the second day of the meeting. The second day of the sixth meeting of the JCMC continues at the NRPC today.
