President U Thein Sein received Nippon Foundation chairman Mr Yohei Sasakawa, who is the Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for National Reconciliation in Myanmar, at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Mr Yohei Sasakawa conveyed the message of the Japanese government, praising the Myanmar government led by President U Thein Sein for successfully and transparently holding a free and fair general election.
The two also discussed further strengthening the friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar, the development of Myanmar’s economic infrastructure, further cooperation in the internal peace process, Japan’s assistance in the reconstruction of schools in flood-affected areas and the success of the Thilawa Special Economic Zone.
The meeting was also attended by union ministers U Soe Thane, U Ye Htut, Dr Daw Khin San Yi and Dr Thant Aung, deputy minister U Thant Kyaw, and Japan’s ambassador to Myanmar Mr Tateshi Higuchi.—Myanmar News Agency
