Japan to provide further assistance to flood-hit schools

DEPUTY Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Daw Lei Lei Thein and Japanese Ambassador Mr Tateshi Higuchi signed an agreement yesterday for the government of Japan to provide 1500 million yen (US$12.22 million) to help fund the reconstruction of schools in flood-affected regions in Myanmar.
The ceremony was also attended by Union Minister Dr Kan Zaw and Deputy Minister for Education Dr Zaw Min Aung.
Over the course of this year, the government of Japan has provided relief funds of more than US$102.25 million to Myanmar.
