Japan donates weather station

A CEREMONY was held on 9 October to celebrate the opening of a meteorological radar station in Minbyin village, Kyaukphyu Township.
Union Minister for Transport U Nyan Tun Aung and Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Tateshi Higuchi attended the event. Mr Keiichiro Nakazawa, the Myanmar representative from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and officials from the Mitsubishi Corporation, the Taisei Corporation, Japan Radio Co Ltd and the Japan Engineering Corporation were also present.
The station was built with a grant from Japan as a token of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The union minister and the ambassador unveiled the signboard of the weather station and inspected the reception of data by the radar, and the ambassador presented the keys to the station to the union minister.
The station will send weather data to Myanmar’s central station and covers an area of 500 square-metres.
