MYANMAR will put more effort into improving the country’s aquaculture industry in collaboration with the Italian government, said U Khin Maung Maw, Director-General of the Department of Fisheries.
Italy has pledged to provide technical support including buildings and laboratories to help Myanmar meet its goals of sustainable development for the country’s fisheries sector at a meeting on Friday in Yangon.
Providing technical support to small scale firms, socio development of regional fisheries organisations, the continuous development of coastal region fisheries management and the manufacture of valued-added products were discussed at the meeting.
With the assistance of Italy, the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development is planning to extend training capacity for industry workers.
The Italian Government Collaboration Agency, the Myanmar ministry, the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry and CHIEAM IAMB are currently implementing a development project for the country’s small scale fisheries and related organisations.
