The opening ceremonies of international entry-exit checkpoints at the Tamu- Moreh and the Reedhorda-Zowkhawtar borders between Myanmar and India were concurrently held yesterday at the particular places.
This is an implementation of landmark Land Border Crossing Agreement between India and Myanmar, signed on 11 May 2018.
The opening ceremony of Tamu-Moreh entry-exit border checkpoint was held yesterday at the archway of the checkpoint near the Myanmar-Indian Friendship Bridge in Tamu Township, Sagaing Region, in which U Aye Lwin, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population Myanmar explained the reasons of opening international entry-exit checkpoints between Myanmar and India.
Afterwards, Consul General of India in Myanmar Mr. Nandan Singh Bhaisora and Tamu District deputy commissioner U Myint Thin Aung delivered speeches.
The Permanent Secretary, Consul General and District deputy commissioner then cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the checkpoint after which they observed the immigration process at the gate.
Following the opening ceremony at the India-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, the Myanmar delegation was given a tour of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) facilities in Moreh, India.
Myanmar’s delegation for the ceremony yesterday morning at Reedhorda was led by U Salai Lian Lwal, Chief Minister of Chin State, Government of Myanmar, while the Indian side was led by Shri Pu H Rohluna, Minister of Commerce and Industries, Government of Mizoram, India. The chief minister of Chin State thanked India External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj for opening the border posts. This was followed by a tour of the immigration check post at Rihkhawdar.
