THE annual festival of Hsutaungpyae Myatswa Phayagyi Pagoda in Monywa of Sagaing Region began on the Full Moon Day of Thadingyut, yesterday.
A festival shop owner expressed concern that her business will suffer this year due to low spending in the area which was recently hit by severe flash flooding. She further added that the coming General Elections have distracted festival goers from the celebrations.
On 5 November there will be a collective offering ceremony to over 6,000 members of the Sangha by the whole town.
The festival of the historic pagoda sells local produce – Myanmar traditional delicacies and clothing, ceramics, electrical items and a host of other products. The event attracts religious devotees from across the nation. The pagoda festival ends on 9 November.
