THERE can be both strengths and weaknesses in the implementation of regional development activities, and the weakness will be overcome by the government in cooperation with the people, said Daw Su Su Lwin, the wife of President U Htin Kyaw, yesterday during a meeting with local farmers at the Dagaw water gate in Dagaw village, Thongwa, Yangon Region.
The government is exerting its utmost efforts to fulfill the needs of the people, that the responsible professional personnel from the departments concerned are asked to consider suggestions made by farmers and provide technical assistance and, since its assumption of duties, the government has directed all of its effort towards fulfilling the needs of the people. The farmers (of the nation) are all requested to join the government in a like-minded manner, said the first lady.
Afterwards, local farmers discussed agricultural sector development as well as regional development.
The Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu, in his reply to the farmers, said that difficultlies faced in water transportation, flood prevention, sanitation and the erosion of river banks can be attributed, in the opinion of the experts, to poor repair and maintenance of sluice gates, the incompletion of the project for greening the City of Yangon and its 30-mile radius environs and a lack of maintenance of waterways.
Dr Aung Thu promised to bring benefits to the people of the region.
The meeting was also attended by Yangon Region Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Energy U Han Tun, representatives from the Pyithu Hluttaw, the Amyotha Hluttaw and the Regional Hluttaw, the directors-general, the region, district and township level departmental officers and local farmers.
