How to prevent natural disaster is one of the headaches for local authorities.

Flash floods on September 17 swept away part of a bridge spanning  Itone creek linking Innpatlei Village and Bontaw Village in Kyauktaga Township, Bago Region. The strong flood water swept away the two concrete bases of the 187- ft long and 20-ft-wide bridge. The bridge was constructed in 2013 by the township development committee with locals’ donation. In 2014 also it was destroyed by floods and was rebuilt in June, this year. As it is damaged again, the rural populace of 4172 who are relying on the bridge for their transportation especially over 100 students are facing difficulties. They have to use boats now crossing the danger waters of the creek and are urgently in need of a new stronger bridge.—(Khin Ko Kyauktaga)
