Five companies lose seafarer recruitment and placement license, five suspended

Yangon, 5 July—The Marine Administration Department has revoked the Seafarer Recruitment and Placement Services (SRPS) license office companies and suspended five others from sending seafarers to foreign companies.
According to the department, Parita, WGM, Glory Marine, Htet Su Win and Very Smart New World Company have lost their SRPS licenses, while Asia Wave, Top Chance, Star Global, Light Oasis and Sea Rider have had their suspended.
Meanwhile, five companies, namely, Bathan, SRS, On World, Express Way Shipping and Standard Commercial, have regained their licenses from the department.
The SRPS license took effect on 1 April, 2014, with 127 companies initially being licensed. The number of licensed companies reached 169 within a year.
Myanmar has allowed only SRPS licensed companies to carry out recruitment and placement as from 1 April last year, urging people to work only with licensed companies to be able to solve problems within the framework of the law when they arise.

Myanmar has implemented the SRPS program as a step for entering into the Maritime Labour Convention-2006 which was launched on20 August, 2012.— GNLM
