Fisheries exports were valued at US$138 million between 1 April to 7 July, an increase of $11 million over last year.
Last year, hilsa was the main export item in the fisheries sector. This year rohu and carp were the most popular products.  Fisheries exports were estimated at $668 million in FY2011-2012, $493 million in FY2012-2013 and $341 million in FY2013-2014, $469 million in FY2015-2016 and $560 million in FY 2016-2017.
Erratic ocean weather adversely impacts fisheries, thus Myanmar’s fisheries industry has begun to invest more heavily in fish farming to boost exports.—Htet Myat
