Filling the Big Chair — Presidential nominations moved forward to 10 March

THE Pyidaungsu Hluttaw announced yesterday that it will hold the meetings of the three presidential electoral colleges on 10 March for making presidential nominations, which was previously scheduled to be held on 17 March.
The original date was set only two weeks before the new government was scheduled to take office on 1 April.
On 10 March, each of the two chambers will nominate its vice-presidential candidate, while the military MPs, who are guaranteed a quarter of the seats, nominate the third.
The president then picks the cabinet, which will take over from the incumbent government on April 1.
It is unclear if the presidential vote will take place on the same day as the nominations are announced.—GNLM
