The opening ceremony of the Fifteenth Monsoon Forum 2015, jointly sponsored and organized by Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) & Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) was held this morning at the Yama-Nya Hall Hotel Royal ACE in Nay Pyi Taw. Dr. Hrin Nei Thiam, Director General of the Department of Meteorology delivered opening remarks and Hydrology and Mr, A.R. Subbish Director of RIMES has briefed about the workshop.
Also present on the occasion were about (40) participants from the related (20) ministries and representatives of disaster management and local level authorities concerned.
The Workshop is focused on the present climate change situation in Myanmar, the general seasonal forecast for 2015-2016 winter monsoon season and the verification of Meteorological and Hydrological forecasts for the last Southwest monsoon season. The agenda included discussions on the summary of the actions taken on the flood and drought events during the 2015 Southwest monsoon season, the applicability of the provided seasonal forecast  by the various sectors the user of climate information. The discussion will be participated by eight working groups.
The monsoon forum has been held twice annually on regular basis starting from 2007 and the current forum is the fifteen. It will continue to hold till 23rd October 2015.—Myanmar News Agency
