Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Information, a festival of literature, tradition and culture of ethnic groups is to be celebrated in February, 2017. it is learnt.
A preliminary meeting for the festival was held yesterday in the meeting hall of the Printing and Publishing Department (PPD) on Theinbyu Street in downtown Yangon.
“The celebration of the festival is aimed at promoting friendship and respect among the brethren groups”, said U Aung Myo Myint, the director-general of PPD and chairman of the committee for organizing the festival said. “Books written by national races will be put on sale, whereas publication of some which were not yet published will be implemented soon. Arrangements for interpretation and presentation of the literature compiled by ethnic races, in Myanmar Language at seminars and talk shows are under way. Traditional music and dance which are now on the verge of extinction and little-known customs are to be exhibited by the ministry.”
U Myint Htwe, director-general of MRTV and a member of the organising committee, said that 17 languages of national races are being broadcast presently, and anyone is eligible to submit customs, travels, scenes of beauty and religious festivals by connecting with branches of their respective townships for showing in the upcoming festival.
U Maung Pe, director-general of the information and public relations department and a member of the organising committee, said that non-transcribed but spoken proverbs and mottos, traditions and customs that are nearly extinct can also be collected to be sent to respective branches.
In the meeting, ministers for Kayin national affairs in Yangon and Bago regions and the chairman of the Myanmar Writers’ Association participated in the discussions and made suggestions.—Myanmar News Agency
