A demonstration of paddy transplanting machines was given to local farmers in Zaya village in Aunglan Township, Magway Region, by agriculture officials and township authorities on September 4.
Farmers learned that the machines  are capable of transplanting 130,000 seedlings per acre and can do so much faster than a labour-intensive, manual process.
Officials told some 75 farmers from six different villages that that labour shortages could therefore be overcome and that yields would be higher if the machinery was deployed.
Farmers were encouraged to distribute half the amount of seeds than is typically sown, as much of the effectively 66.66 kg to 99.99 kilogrammes per acre goes to waste.
