Farmers prepare for new cultivation season in Kyaukse Tsp

Local farmers have been ploughing and nurturing paddy saplings using water from the Zawgyi River in Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Region, as of early July.
They use tractors and power-tillers to cultivate land that it is difficult to plough by cattle.
The 25-day paddy saplings are easy to grow on the farmlands, and weeding should be carried out by power-tiller, a local farmer from Kula village said.
Local farmers spend K120,000 per acre on ploughing, paddy transplanting, harvesting and winnowing. Each acre of paddy can yield 80 baskets on average.—Khin Maung Lwin
