FAMILIES of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air)’s office celebrated the 60th anniversary of the sixth synod and the festival of the Full Moon of Kason yesterday with the consecration of Buddha images and the pouring of water onto the Bodhi or Bo Tree in Nay Pyi Taw.
The congregation, led by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, poured water onto the Bodhi Tree, the holy Banyan tree at the foot of which the Buddha attained Buddhahood or enlightenment more than 2,500 years ago in India, so Buddhist beliefs hold.
To mark the 60th Anniversary of the Buddhist Synod 414 Buddha images were consecrated by the Members of the Sangha at the Nawaday Hall.
