DREDGING works at 26 individual spots have been carried out to help prevent river bank erosion along the Ayeyawady River, Punhlaing River and Dothtawady River in Mandalay Region, according to an official from the region’s Water Resources Utilisation Department.
With the use of funds from both the regional government and Union government the department has spent just over K4 million on the Ayeyawady River waterway development project which included dredging works to protect against river bank erosion in the region, said Director U Toe Aung Lin of the department.
As the dredging operation was undertaken along those rivers as of only a few months ago, timely completion of the works has ensured the safe flow of vessel traffic at a time when water levels are falling, the director said. — Aung Thant Khaing
