Kyaikhtiyo Buddha Pujaniya Festival, also known as the ceremony of the sacred Mountain, is annually held on the Full Moon of Thadingyut.
This year’s donations amounted to K 844 lakh, topping last year’s amount of K 217 lakh, it is learnt.
In previous years, donation centers collected money under authorised contract, whereas only donation receiving centres collected money under the close watch of the Board of Pagoda Trusteeships, who disbursed donor acknowledgement slips.
According to the Ministry of Religions Affairs and Culture, the Ministry will carry out programmes for pilgrims to peacefully worship the Pagoda and for the progress of the Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda in consultation with the Mon State Government.
Necessities of pilgrims will be scrutinised and any activities of the Pagoda will be publicised, it is learnt.—Myanmar News Agency
