Donation ceremony to mark Sitagu Sayadaw’s 79th birthday

Sitagu Sayadaw-72TO MARK the 79th birthday of renowned Sitagu Sayadaw Dr Ashin Nyanissara, a large donation will be made at the World Buddha University located on Sagaing Hill in Sagaing Region this month.
The donation ceremony is scheduled to take place on 22 March. Meals and other gifts will be offered to around 1,000 nuns.
Thousand of monks will be provided robes and other gifts by the Sayadaw on 24 March in conjunction with a ceremony to fix a diamond orb and a golden umbrella to the top of the local Htupayone Pagoda.
Local and international visitors are invited to observe the Sayadaw’s birthday celebration on Sagaing Hill.
The venerable Sitagu Sayadaw Dr Ashin Nyanissara was born on 23 February 1937, in the town of Thegon, Bago Division, in central Myanmar. From 1975 onward, he has given lectures to the public throughout the country and abroad.
The Sayadaw runs missionary operations at the Sitagu International Buddhist Missionary Centre, which was newly established in Yangon, Myanmar.—Tin Maung
