Detained Myanmar workers arrive Yangon from Malaysia

The first batch of detained Myanmar citizens in Malaysia returned to Yangon yesterday via chartered flight under arrangements of the Kanbawza’s Brighter Future Myanmar Foundation-BFM.
The group comprising 138 Myanmar citizens were welcomed at the Yangon International Airport by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, the Brighter Future Myanmar Foundation and their families.
The foundation also provided K100,000 to each
migrant worker.
The remaining Myanmar citizens will also be brought back home by a chartered flight, according to BFM.
According to sources, 2,294 Myanmar citizens were detained for various reasons in 11 camps in Malaysia.
From 2013 to 2016, KBZ’s BFM foundation also sponsored the return of more than 3,000 workers from Malaysia, more than 500 Myanmar fishermen from India and 510 trafficked Myanmar fishermen from Indonesia.
So far, a total of more than 4,200 Myanmar citizens have been brought back home by BFM.
