COUNTRYMEN ABROAD — State Counsellor meets Myanmar citizens in Bangkok

STATE Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi visited Sampran Riverside in Nakhon Pathom province in Bangkok yesterday where she observed the botanical gardens as well as facilities dedicated to the production of bio-fertiliser and eco-friendly products. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi also spoke words of encouragement to Myanmar farm workers employed at the site.
The state counsellor proceeded to Assumption University where she met with Myanmar faculty members and students, urging them to help their fellow citizens in need.
Helping fellow citizens, especially migrant workers, is a national concern, the state counsellor said, urging the students to cultivate volunteerism from a young age and remain committed to the cause. She pointed out the need to uphold a sense of national prestige, calling her fellow citizens diplomats in their own right and stressing that they should obey the laws of their host country.
At the Myanmar Embassy, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met 13 Myanmar labour rights groups to discuss the availability of legal protection, documents and minimum wages for Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand.
The state counsellor left Bangkok in the evening. On arrival back at the airport in Yangon, the state counsellor and her entourage were welcomed by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe and officials.
