China to fund $38.4 million embankment repairs

An agreement has been signed that will see China provide Myanmar with US$ 38.4 million to repair Aphyauke embankment in Yangon Region in the cool season.
On the invitation of President U Thein Sein, a team of experts from China are
carrying out field tests in the area.
During flood in July, the embankment was close to bursting and it took the combined efforts of residents and officials to prevent it from doing so.
The Chinese experts will also carry out field tests in Yangon, Bago, Ayeyawady, Magway, Mandalay and Sagaing regions.
