Hundreds of school children and others who adore children’s literature are participating in the Children’s Literature Festival in at the Mawlamyine University.
The event kicked off at the Mawlamyine University, with an opening address by Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint.
The festival was formally opened by Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint, Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi, Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs Nai Thet Lwin, Mon State Chief Minister Dr Aye Zan and school children.
In his address, Union Minister Dr Pe Myint stressed the need to promote reading habit in the country as part of efforts for development of literature which is directly proportional to the development of the country.
The three-day festival is aimed at development of children and literature.
“All are now aware of the fact that human resources is far more important than the natural resources for national development. A country however rich in above ground and underground resources cannot develop without the human resources development or in other words the prowess of the citizens,” he said.
“Public reading habit must be nurtured and promoted to get in touch with literature and to harbour literature-friendly spirit. Child age is the best time to nurture and develop reading habit. Hence, the ministry held the literature festival,” he added.
In his concluding remarks, the Union Minister expressed his belief that the children would have a great future ahead of their life when they love reading very much and love literature, adding that the children would bring the bright future of the country.
Following opening remarks by Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi and Mon State Chief Minister Dr Aye Zan, school children performed the traditional dances of Mon, Kayin and PaO.—Myanmar News Agency
