Children’s literature festival goes with a bang

Children take part in painting contest on the final day of the Children’s Literature Festival in Mawlamyine.

The closing ceremony for the Children’s Literature Festival was held by the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education and the government of Mon State at the hall of Mawlamyine University yesterday afternoon.
During the ceremony, Mon State Minister for Social Affairs Dr Htein Lin said the three-day festival had been held successfully with the aim of promoting reading habit for children and improving their intelligence and enjoyment. He also gave his heartfelt thanks to the Union Ministers and officials from the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education, and the government of the Mon State, town elders who supported the event with resources both human and monetary, the education staffs of the township, the rector of the University and members of the non-profit organisations for their cooperation. He also said that celebrating festivals such as this one should be continued as it educates the public and supports the development of Myanma Literature.
U Maung Pe, Director General of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Information, also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the ministers and officials for their efforts for the children’s literature festival. Next, 87 students were awarded prizes by the officials.
The students participated in a poetry contest, a storytelling contest, an impromptu contest, and a paper-folding contest. Finally, the officials gave certificates of honour to the judges of the children’s contests, the township elders, education staffs, volunteering associations and officials from the private companies who provided aid and support for the festival.
