Children, pregnant women in Maungtaw, Buthidaung receive vaccinations

Children receive vaccination at Zeditaung Village in Buthidaung Township.

A vaccination program is being carried out in Maungtaw and Buthidaung townships, giving inoculations to children and pregnant women in the two villages in Rakhine State to prevent 10 debilitating, and sometimes fatal diseases.
The vaccines given in the two villages prevent tuberculosis, polio, hepatitis, whooping cough, lockjaw, German measles, measles and pneumonia.
Rakhine State Social Affairs Minister Dr Chan Thar and officials visited the vaccination activities at Zeditaung and Nyaungchaung villages in Buthidaung Township yesterday.
“We are giving the vaccination to children and pregnant women from both communities in the villages and explained to locals about the importance of the vaccinations,” said Dr Than Tun Kyaw, Buthidaung Township Medical Officer.
The vaccination programme is being conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Sports, local religious leaders and townselders.
