Chief Justice speaks on measures to promote public trust in courts

WORKS are underway with momentum to successfully implement a jurisdictional strategy to win public trust and confidence in the courts and to enforce the rule of law, said Union Chief Justice U Tun Tun Oo at a work coordination meeting with High Courts and District Courts in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
The Chie Justice called on judges, judicial officers and staff to put their utmost efforts into jurisdiction reforms and said that an annual judicial report will be released and reforms in management and leadership will be carried out.
In his address, the Chief Justice said that Supreme Court of the Union heard and determined 546 of 1,092 criminal cases and 1,275 of 2,329 civil cases during the period from 1 January to 30 June this year.
Next, he stressed the need to perform with fair judgment based on a thorough review of the evidences in accordance with existing laws and to make more efforts not to delay legal proceedings.
The work coordination meeting, attended by justices of the Union Supreme Court, chief justices of the Region/State High Courts and officials is scheduled to last for three days till Saturday.
