LOCAL chicken farmers are investing more in broiler chicken which can be raised in 40 days and sent to market to broaden the Myanmar chicken industry, according to poultry farming entrepreneurs.
“Now we are self-reliant enough to be competitive. We mainly need to strengthen the infrastructure and upgrade the laboratories for our local breeders.” said Daw Hla Hla Thein, Chairperson of the Myanmar Poultry Business Association.
If Myanmar businesses import chickens, they need to hold a certificate from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
As the system of free trade will be introduced in the near future, we in the chicken trade should also invest in laboratories which will be essential, said an official from the Myanmar Livestock Association.
