Ceremony marking 100th anniversary of death of King Thibaw held

A donation ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the death of King Thibaw was held in Ratnagiri, India, yesterday.
It was attended by a Myanmar delegation led by Bamo Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Kumara, chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, comprising Vice President U Myint Swe and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, U Soe Win, the great grandchild of the deceased King Thibaw and members of the royal family and responsible officials.
At the ceremony, the congregation took the Five Precepts from the Bamo Sayadaw and the members of Sangha recited parittas.
The congregation donated offertories to the members of Sangha and shared the merits gained. The ceremony ended with submission of the letter of supplication to the deceased king by U Soe Win and Daw Dewi Khin on behalf of members of the royal family. The late king Thibaw, queen Supayalat and two infant daughters were exiled to Ratnagiri, India, after abdicating the throne.
Following the ceremony, the Myanmar delegation met with Buddhists from Goa State at the Thibaw Point.
At the meeting, the Buddhist people received the Five Precepts from Bamo Sayadaw, and Thitagu Sayadaw delivered a sermon.
