U YAWD SERK, the chairman of Restoration Council of Shan State Shan State Army-South (RCSS/SSA-S) spoke to a group of Shan nationals in Mandalay on 18 October. He explained various aspects of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, which he signed on 15 October in Nay Pyi Taw, as well as the next steps for Myanmar’s peace process.
The event was held at the Shan Nationals’ Association headquarters in Chanayethasan Township. It was also attended by regional minister and Shan national U Saing Maung Hla, members of the University of Shan Literature and Culture Association and local media.
U Yawd Serk said that the NCA is a vital first step towards a democratic, federal nation. He added that through all-inclusive dialogue, the signatories will work together to achieve lasting peace and national reconciliation. He said that establishing a federal union is at the heart of the overall process.
