THE Pahtodawgyi Pagoda in Amarapura township, Mandalay Region, will begin its festival from 1 to 7 April which includes traditional bullock cart racing, it has been learned.
The festival has so far attracted 100 participants from Mandalay, Sagaing and Magwe regions, with organisers saying that the winning bullock carts will receive handsome awards. Local residents said that some attendees offered high
prices for last year’s winning bulls in the hope that they would turn out to be champions this year too.
The champion bull that was worth K1.4 million last year has now been sold for K2.5 million to a contestant from Pyay.
The awards are K300,000 for first prize, K200,000 for second prize and K100,000 for third prize.
