Dawei, 31 May — A big bronze bell named Maha Wizaya Khemathitala Neibbutaghawtha was brought to Dawei of Taninthayi Region on 29 May, with officials saying it was brought from Mandalay three days ago and would be placed at a local pagoda.
The bell weighs 11,777 viss, with 12 feet in height, 7 feet and 5 inches in diameter and one foot in thickness.
Decorated with Myanmar traditional crafts, Maha Mingala Bell will be placed at Shwetaungsa Pagoda in Dawei. The bell is similar in shape with the Bell of King Thayawady placed at northeast Corner of Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, which is ranked as the second largest bell in Myanmar.
The bell was cast in Mandalay with the donations contributed by pious people under the patronage of Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla. —(Taninthayi Region IPRD)
